Manic depression is also known as bipolar disorder. Bipolar disorder or manic depression is refers to a person’s mood alternating between ‘poles’ of mania (highs) and depression (lows). Actually manic depression is a brain disorder which causes unusual changes in the person’s mood, ability to function, and energy. Usually manic depression is found among people of all ages, ethnic groups, ages, and social classes. This brain disorder also appears to have a genetic link and tends to run in families. There are three states of manic depression. You need to know the episodes to know how o treat it.

The first episode is manic episode. This episode is diagnoses if elevated mood occurs with 3 or more of the other symptoms most of the day, nearly every day or for 1 week or longer. The 2nd episode is Depressive episode. This episode is diagnosed if 5 or more of these symptoms last most of the day, nearly every day or for period of two weeks or longer. The last episode is a combination between symptoms of mania and depression.

It’s occurring together in a mixed bipolar state. A person who gains this symptom can be very sad, hopeless mood but feeling energized at the same time. Episodes of abnormality are associated with distress and disruption and an elevate risk of suicide especially during depressive episodes. You have to know the personal triggers and continuous treatment is necessary.

A good amount of sleep and regular sleep times are very important in the treatment of manic disorder. You can also take medication way and meet psychiatrists to help balance the highs and lows of the disease. because people who have bipolar disorder have abnormal thyroid function, it’s need to be monitored carefully to know the mood and energy levels from time to time.
